Projects and Organisations We have Helped through Our Grants

 

Over the past seven years, Herefordshire Community Foundation
has been able to help a large number of organisations in the
county through its grant programmes. These are some of the
grants awarded by Herefordshire Community Foundation
in the last few weeks...

 

The Becket Bulmer Fund

 

An individual from Herefordshire has been given a grant of £250 towards the costs of her MA in Multimedia Broadcast Journalism.

 

Dancefest received an award of £350 towards the costs of their Herefordshire tour.

 

Shakespeare Schools Festival received an award of £400 towards the cost of staging a performance of Hamlet at The Courtyard involving local young people.

 

A 16-year old young lady from Hereford was given a grant of £467 towards the costs of her attendance at the National Youth Theatre summer course.

 

Rainbow Nursery has been granted £600 in order to stage a series of different arts based activities for the children throughout the year.

 

A young man who lives in Hereford has been awarded £650 towards the costs of IT and other equipment required for participation in a FE course.

 

Breast Cancer Haven Hereford has been given a grant of £500 towards core costs.

 

Herefordshire Samaritans have been given a grant of £500 towards the costs of staging their Christmas Fair.

 

Herefordshire Headway has been given a grant of £250 towards the cost of a new freezer.

 

Comic/Sport Relief

 

Burghill and Tillington Cricket Club has been awarded £4,000 towards the costs in part of providing training facilities for Herefordshire Disabled Cricket Team.

 

The Green Eyed Monster Company has been awarded £1,200 towards the costs of running the ‘Frock On’ project. This is a sewing and textile project for adults with disability or disadvantage and will build and develop skills working with old and vintage textiles.

 

FC Phoenix Disability has been awarded £1,364 towards the costs of provision of wheelchair football.

 

Grassroots Youthbank

 

Herefordshire Youth Music Action Zone, who are based at The Courtyard have been awarded £4,600 to run a series of musical workshops for young people over the October half-term. The workshops will encompass a variety of different music styles and will be for all abilities.

 

European Social Fund Community Grants (Worcestershire)

 

Empowering People in the Community (EPIC) who are based in Bromsgrove, have been awarded £9,978 to deliver a project consisting of two programmes aimed at ex-offenders and victims of domestic violence which will focus on the removal of barriers to employment developing job search and interview skills amongst other outcomes.

 

PCT Small Schemes Fund 2009/2010

 

Age Concern Leominster and District have been awarded £10,000 to develop a project that will put in place a structured progressive exercise programme to take older people with varying levels of mobility from basic low level exercises that may be undertaken in an armchair or wheelchair through to engagement with programmes offered by Walking for Health or HALO Leisure. This will include home visits with some emphasis on the more rural areas.

 

Aspire Choices have been awarded £4,538 to deliver a series of training sessions for people with learning disabilities in Herefordshire. Subjects will include Sexual Health, Fire Safety, Moving and Handling and Personal Safety. The programme has been developed and designed as a result of specific problems that have been identified and the aim is to teach and encourage awareness.

 

Homestart Herefordshire have been awarded £7,397 to develop and test an innovative story-telling project the aim of which is to improve the relationship of parents and children through the medium of books and hopefully reduce the stress, problems and difficulties that can be faced by families, particularly those with young children. The project includes storytelling workshops for parents and children and storytelling courses for Homestart volunteers.

 

Herefordshire Headway have been awarded £4,784 to run a 12-month pilot project to prove the concept of using music, singing and movement in a group setting as an aid to recovery for people who have suffered head injuries.

 

The Alzheimer’s Society Herefordshire Branch have been awarded £5,500 towards the cost of establishing an ‘Al’s Café’ in Ross-on-Wye. This will be a place where people with Alzheimer’s, their families and/or carers and health professionals can meet and mix in an environment that is more social than professional. Information can be imparted and gathered and support can be provided.

 

Services for Independent Living (SIL) have been awarded £10,000 to pilot an innovative method of providing peer support for the use of Individual Budgets (IB’s) in the Market Towns and more rural areas of Herefordshire.

 

2XL Youth Projects have been awarded a grant of £9,916 to develop and deliver a series of workshops to be delivered to over 1,000 teenagers in Herefordshire looking at teenage pregnancy and how can impact on the life and aspirations of a young person.
